HE IS YOUR NEIGHBOR.

HE IS EXPERIENCED.

HE IS PROVEN.

Gary Hooser is the former Senate Majority Leader and State Senator representing the beautiful Islands of Kaua'i and Ni'ihau 2003 - 2010.

During his political career, Hooser has been actively engaged in many community oriented issues including renewable energy, social justice, environmental protection, shoreline access, affordable housing, and agriculture. One of his most significant accomplishments to date was introducing and passing into law the nation's first solar hot water heating system requirement for new homes. Known for his open door and collaborative style, he is respected among his colleagues and community leaders around the state.

Hooser believes in being "out in front" on issues. Back in October 2009, he was the first to propose a solution to the "Furlough Friday" situation. He asked for a special session to utilize existing funds to properly restore the school days. Over the years, he has taken a leadership role in numerous important and sometimes controversial issues. Hooser was the leading advocate in the Senate in support of HB444, the civil unions legislation recently vetoed by Governor Lingle.

Prior to the Senate, he served as a member of the Kaua'i County Council for 4 years.

He owned and managed a publishing company and worked as a real estate broker on Kauai'i before starting his political career.

Hooser graduated from Radford High School (Class of 1972), Kaua'i Community College and the University of Hawai'i - West O'ahu.

He and his wife, Claudette, and his two children have lived on Kaua'i for more than 30 years.

He is currently a candidate for the Office of Lieutenant Governor in 2010.
